When you are in a state of peace your mind has the opportunity to rest. During this reset, your mind quiets and reduces that feeling of impending doom that we so often walk around with. When we allow ourselves to switch off, our brain can stop sending out Cortisol (a stress hormone) which primes us to constantly be on watch. This in turn gives us the space to temporarily disconnect from our fears
Once our brain is resting it allows our Sympathetic Nervous System to relax (reducing the fight or flight response). Resting turns on the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) which causes smooth muscle relaxation, reduces heart rate, releases bile in your stomach (facilitating digestion) and improves sleep. Turning on the PNS gives our physical bodies opportunity for rest, which speeds up healing

Reiki healers who hold their hands over a chakra can resonate with pain in related organs, congestion in lymph nodes, find abnormalities in heat and find areas of emotional turmoil. They can then move and manipulate that energy to promote healing or release something that has been held stagnant.
